Pay as You Earn (PAYE) is a tax you pay on salaries. In Uganda, this tax is calculated based on your gross pay and how much you earn per month.
If your salary is UGX 100, 000, your PAYE will be UGX 5, 000, resulting to a net pay of UGX95, 000.
Below we summarize the gross pay, net pay and tax for various tax brackets.
|GROSS SALARY(UGX)||TAX||NET SALARY|
You will notice that there are different tax brackets, where those earning less than UGX 200,000 are only subjected to pension-they don’t pay tax. From UGX 200,000 upwards, employees must pay tax, which is commonly referred to as PAYE.
The table above has factored in pension, which is paid regardless of your salary scale. The more you earn the more you pay your pension, also the more you earn the more you pay your tax.
