Cars Government officials drive in Kenya



Government officials drive official cars and private vehicles. Official cars are given to senior government officials, such as Cabinet Secretaries, head of state corporations, security personnel and permanent secretaries. Junior staff is not given government vehicles unless they are assigned special duties that require movement with government vehicles.

Junior government officials who manage to drive cars cannot afford cars exceeding Ksh 2 million in cost. This is due to the small amount they take home in salaries. They, therefore, buy the following cars:

  • Nissan X-Trail
  • Mazda Demio

The budget for middle income earners is Ksh 500,000-Ksh 1.5 million.
